Day 11: Failure and Triggers

"There is no such thing as failure in the process of experimentation and growth - only lessons that are meant for us, in exactly the order we’re meant to learn them." - Bex Weller

Welcome to Day 11!

The sober journey was not linear for me. I did not simply make a decision to stop drinking and it all came together for me.

I would quit, stumble, pick myself up and get back to it. Each time I decided to move forward and reach for a drink, I learned from it.

I remember when I was in first grade, Mario Brothers came out on Nintendo, I was in the second grade. I was OBSESSED with this game! I would think about it while at school and go through all the levels in my head that I was familiar with. The fun part was getting to a place or level I had never been before - and trying to figure out how to get further each time.

Sometimes I stalled on a certain part. Sometimes I flew through a new level with flying colors. And sometimes I would make careless mistakes that would leave me starting over again.

The sober journey has a lot of parallels to this. It’s an exciting adventure, disappointing sometimes, takes practice and hard work. But eventually we can master the levels to where we feel comfortable in every situation.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.

  1. Watch the Day 11 video and ask yourself the following questions if you stumble:

    • What situations cause me to be uncomfortable? What can I learn from this?

    • Was I in a position I wasn’t ready for yet?

    • Was I unprepared for the situation at hand?

    • Are there any roadblocks that are hindering my success?

    • What emotions or feelings are the most uncomfortable for me to sit with?

  2. Say your Daily Mantra "I choose to look at every opportunity as a lesson to learn and grow."

  3. Head over to the Private Facebook Group and join us to share that you completed Day 11 (or post any successes or struggles you encountered)
