Day 6: Get a Physical Reminder

Welcome to Day 6! 

When I was just out of college, my first job was downtown Charlotte. I lived only 20 miles away, but the rush hour traffic in the mornings and evenings were awful - and sometimes it would take me more than an hour to get home! I was renting a little place on Lake Norman - that offered the most spectacular sunsets! So I printed a picture of a sunset one day and stuck it to my cubicle wall. It gave me motivation to do a good job and remind me that I was working and enduring a lot of traffic headaches - but my reward was to live on the lake as an independent, young woman!

Flash forward to present time, a sweet and dear friend gave me a bracelet that simply had the word “Believe.” She knew my goal of living an alcohol-free lifestyle and growing a community to support others to do the same. I LOVE IT and am wearing it now as I type. When I feel overwhelmed or unqualified to reach my goals, I literally look down at my bracelet and take a moment to envision my goals and believe I can follow through with reaching them.

Long story short: Tangible reminders can serve as powerful tools to keep your goals top of mind - and on track!


Because embracing an alcohol-free lifestyle requires you to create a new normal and be mindful of your habits and thoughts, a physical reminder can help you stay aware of your goals. Every time you touch or see the object, it will remind you of your goal and encourage you to focus on what really matters!

I believe it’s time for you to get a tangible reminder.

Here are a few examples of what you could choose from:

  • Wear a temporary tattoo on the inside of your wrist

  • Choose a special piece of jewelry that you wear daily

  • Select an inspirational quote on your computer’s or phone’s lock screen

  • Tie a ribbon around your wrist

  • Carry around a small notebook or bible

  • Paint a fingernail a certain color

  • Put a small photo of your family or friends in your wallet

  • Tie a string around your wedding ring

Your physical reminder can be anything you want! But I do ask that you associate an emotion or meaning to it. For example, my BELIEVE bracelet keeps me feeling strong and confident as I venture out to tackle projects that I have never done before!


  1. Identify your physical trinket and place it/wear it where you can see it daily!!

  2. Say your Daily Mantra "I believe I can."
